This is a comprehensive collection of all of the coffee shops I've visited as an amateur coffee enthusiast, with my opinions on the coffee and notes from conversations I've had with the people behind the scenes. I tend to visit speciality coffee roasters and local recommendations. Coffee often goes hand-in-hand with good food, particularly fresh pastries - and sometimes, this can augment the coffee experience itself. So, this is also a factor in play when rating a place. I've also included matcha and some occassional tea recommendations, since they are often served in similar establishments. This world map of coffee also inherently serves as a travelogue, just with a coffee-oriented focus.

Coffee Guide

Coffee is an inherently subjective experience, and all of my opinions are largely based on my own personal flavor palette. I tend to prefer lighter roasts, oat milk for milk-based espresso drinks, and I generally try to avoid sweetened coffees.

I tend to enjoy most coffees, at least to some level. Ratings are, to some extent, arbitrary, which is why I have a custom rating scale that incorporates these additional factors. It's certainly not mathematically sound - but it tries to convey my overall impression of a place and its coffee. The ratings are as follows:

Memorable

Coffee that goes beyond excellent - to the point where I still actively think about it. The greatest coffee I've had.

Excellent

Excellent coffee that is flavorful, served by a café with an excellent vibe. These are the best of the best.

Great

Great coffee that had excellent flavor. These are the places I would want to actively visit.

Standard

A solid coffee. One that produced no complaints, and that I would return to.

Not Great

Coffee that was fine, and that I could get by, but that I wouldn't be returning to again.

Bad

Coffee that I cannot even pretend to have enjoyed, because it genuinely was not a good experience.

Coffee Types

These signs distinguish coffee shops based on the type of coffee (or other type of drink, such as matcha), that they serve. There are many types of drinks and methods of preparation for coffee, so it is useful to distinguish places based on their specialties. After all, how does one compare a good espresso to a good pourover?
